FAQ
The questions everyone asks
And a few they should. If yours is not here, just ask — I would rather answer it now than after you have booked.
How far ahead do people usually book?
Nine months to a year, and the December–January dates go first. April is the other crush. That said, I keep a bit of room for short-notice weddings, so if your date is close, ask anyway instead of assuming it has gone.
My nekath is at 6:42 in the morning. Is that a problem?
No, and thank you for telling me the exact minute, because plenty of people do not. Auspicious times are the one fixed point in the whole day and everything else gets built around them. I have photographed poruwa ceremonies at quarter past five in the morning. I will be there before you are.
Do you shoot poruwa, church, Nikah and Hindu ceremonies?
All of them. I have worked enough weddings in this country to know when to put the camera down, where not to stand, and which parts you will want photographed even though nobody thinks to ask. If your family has a custom I am unlikely to have seen, tell me on the call and I will read up beforehand.
What about the homecoming?
Book it. I know it costs more and I know it feels like the day that matters is the first one, but the homecoming is where everybody finally relaxes. It is consistently the better set of photographs. You can add it to a single-day booking later if you would rather decide nearer the time.
What does “documentary” mean in practice?
I photograph what happens instead of arranging what happens. No shot list to grind through, no stopping the day to pose, and no lining forty people up in front of a hedge. Family groups are the exception and I do those gladly: quickly, in one place, from a list we agree in advance, because you will want them in twenty years.
What if it rains?
It will, at some point, and it is genuinely fine. Overcast light is the best light there is, and a downpour pushes everyone into fewer rooms, which is better for photographs, not worse. Buy ten plain umbrellas, agree an indoor spot for family groups in advance, then stop checking the forecast. It will not change what happens.
How many photographs, and when do we get them?
It depends on the package: 150 on Lite, up to 500 on Gold, all edited and all at full resolution. A handful come back within a few days so you have something to look at while you are still on a high, and the full gallery lands within six weeks. Outside the December rush it is normally sooner.
Can we print them ourselves?
Yes. Full resolution downloads and a personal print licence come with every package, so you can print what you like, where you like, for as long as you like. Ask me and I will point you at a lab that will not wreck the colour.
What happens if you get sick, or a card fails?
Two camera bodies on me all day, both writing to two cards at once, so nothing has ever existed in only one place. Everything is copied to two drives before I sleep and to offsite storage the next day. If I am genuinely unable to be there I have photographers I trust who will cover, and you get the difference back. It has not come up yet.
Will our photographs end up on Instagram?
Only if you say yes in writing. It is opt-in in the contract, not opt-out, and you can change your mind afterwards. Some of the weddings I am proudest of are not on this website for exactly that reason.

Tell me about your day
I only take a limited number of weddings a year, so that each one gets the whole of my attention. If your date is free I would like to hear about it.
